THIS astonishing skyscraper is set to become the world’s tallest building – and it really will stick out a mile.

Plans were unveiled yesterday for Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia which will be exactly one mile high.

It will have 275 floors and be twice the height of Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is currently the world’s tallest building.

Kingdom Tower is expected to cost £12billion to construct and it will take 12 minutes to reach the top in a lift.

Members of the Saudi royal family unveiled the proposals showing that the megastructure will include hotels, offices apartments and a shopping centre.

The tower will have 12 million cubic square feet of interior space – 12 times more than Canary Wharf in East London. And it will be five times higher than the Shard of Glass in South London which will be Britain’s tallest building when completed next year.

Kingdom Tower will be financed by the Saudi royal family-owned Kingdom Holding Company which is chaired by Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal and is the nation’s largest company.

US firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, which designed the Burj Khalifa, drew up the plans and skyscraper specialist Emaar, based in Dubai, is understood to have won the contract to build the tower outside the Red Sea port of Jeddah as the centre piece of a new city.

But the project has been criticised by Rory Olcayto, deputy editor of The Architects’ Journal, who said: “The race to build the highest skyscraper is quite futile – where do you stop?

“These buildings are a symbol of an old-fashioned way of thinking.”

Kula će imati 275 spratova i njena visina od 1600m će za duplo premašiti trenutno najvišu zgradu na svetu - Burdž Dubai.

Ova građevina će imati površinu od 3,5 miliona kvadratnih metara u sklopu kojih se predviđaju poslovni prostori, luksuzni apartmani, hoteli i tržni centar.

Ono što je zanimljivo jeste što se oko izgradnje kule planira i izgradnja čitavog grada, umesto izgradnje samo kule u centru grada. Lokacija na kojoj će se nalaziti kula i njen grad je luka Džeda.

Očekivani troškovi izgradnje Kule Kraljevstva se procenjuju na oko £12 milijardi ($19.6 milijardi) i 12 minuta vožnje liftom do vrha.
